Massachusetts requires both parents to complete a 4-hour co-parenting education class in divorce and custody cases under Probate and Family Court Standing Order 3-23. This requirement applies to contested divorces, separate support cases, paternity actions, and custody/parenting time disputes filed after February 12, 2024.
However, Massachusetts operates a closed provider system under Standing Order 3-23, designating "Two Families Now" as the sole accepted class. Our class, while accepted nationwide and meeting educational standards, cannot be used to satisfy Massachusetts' specific court requirement. Parents subject to this order must complete the designated Two Families Now program.
If you're unsure whether Massachusetts' requirement applies to your case, consult your attorney or court clerk. Joint no-fault divorces under G.L. c. 208, § 1A are specifically exempt from this requirement.
Massachusetts Probate and Family Courts implemented Standing Order 3-23 in 2024, reinstating mandatory co-parenting education after suspending the previous requirement during COVID. The order establishes a closed provider system with no application process for additional providers.
