Minnesota requires both parents to complete an 8-hour Parent Education Program in dissolution and contested custody cases under Minn. Stat. § 518.157. The statute mandates that courts "shall order the parents of a minor child to attend or take online" this education program that meets Minnesota Supreme Court standards.
Our class covers all 20+ required content topics including child development, co-parenting skills, conflict resolution, and Minnesota's judicial process. Online completion is explicitly authorized by statute — the 2021 amendment added "or take online" to the mandatory attendance requirement. You can complete the full program online at your own pace.
Both parents must complete separate programs within the timeframe set by your court order. Upon completion, you'll receive an instant certificate accepted by Minnesota courts statewide under the state's controlled approval system.
Under Minn. Stat. § 518.157, Minnesota courts must order parent education in contested custody cases, and may order it in all other proceedings involving children. Every divorce summons includes notice of this requirement per § 518.091.
